First Feedback!

My Dad introduced me to space opera with his well-stocked library of titles from Edgar Rice Burroughs, Doc Smith, A. E. Van Vogt, the Heinlein juveniles, and on and on. He knows his stuff.
I’ve written my first installment of an episodic set of serial short stories in the Sky Pirate universe. The first story is a trifle long at 7700 words, but it’s an origin story and as Bill Snodgrass pointed out, that’s kind of like a two hour pilot, so I don’t feel so bad.
My Dad was one of a small group of people that I sent the rough draft out to to get his impressions. I was pleased that he read it, but wasn’t expecting his response:
WOW! I’m IMPRESSED. This could have been done by any
of the better authors that I read, and it’s a LOT
better than many that I’ve read over the years.
Congratulations! I’m really looking forward to the
Rest Of The Story, and feel honored that I don’t have
to PAY for the privilige of reading it!It really HOOKED me. I couldn’t stop reading it. It
was logical, well developed, and ended at a reasonable
break point. It tells me that there is much more to
come, and I’m looking forward to it!Do you remember when I’d search for the next Andre
Norton, or David Weber book? This is in the same
category. I’m anticipating the next installment!Love,
Dad
The new story is called “The Assassin of Patience Bay” and will be the first in a series of monthly serials following the adventures of Cooper Flynn as he assembles his crew and becomes The Sky Pirate. The serials will be published over at Ray Gun Revival as soon as we finish development and start to publish it. The e-zine is a free mag dealing with space opera and golden age sci-fi, and work is progressing as I write this! The RGR team is known to you all here; Bill Snodgrass is the host and mentor and liaison with Double-Edged Publishing, and the three co-conspirators doing primary editorial duties are Lee S. King, PCG, and yours-truly.
